The St. Pete Young Professional’s Leadership Roundtable series is a monthly, member-exclusive program that connects young professionals with major leaders to discuss personal and professional growth, goals and success.
May’s Leadership Roundtable featured Scott Gebicke, Vice President of Global Business Units at Jabil. Gebicke shared insights about life-long traits that lead to success and the importance of giving and receiving feedback.
Scott’s varied background has allowed him to develop leadership skills through unique circumstances. He has lived in more than 15 different cities on account of his military experience and consulting work in past jobs. London, Hawaii, San Francisco, Johannesburg, South Africa and Amsterdam are just some of the places where Scott has lived.
Scott’s first experience with leadership came at 21 years old when he had 35 people working for him in the military. He explained that he had to learn leadership from a firehose… meaning really quickly and all at once.
Throughout his career, Scott credits 3 traits that have made him successful and ones that he believes are needed to break through ceilings or obstacles.
• Intellectual curiosity - people who want to know “why” and continuously learn are successful because they ask questions to get answers and more information
• Comfort with ambiguity - someone who is able to assess a situation and realize that they may not know what to do but will try their best to navigate through it will develop adaptability to uncertain situations in the future.
• Ability to synthesize - a person who is able to explain who they are in an authentic way can develop a strong foundation for building relationships.
