Celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, Friends of Strays has been making an impact on St. Pete by saving the lives of homeless and abandoned animals. Friends of Strays started in 1978 when a group of local women noticed there were many stray cats roaming the streets of St. Petersburg. Two years later, they were able to purchase the building they are currently housed in and became a true animal shelter. Their services have expanded, but they stay true to the mission that started it all - save lives and find homes for homeless and abandoned animals of Pinellas County and beyond.
