In 2000, Jones and Kent met in graduate school and each went on to have successful roles in the corporate business realm. With complimentary skill sets in marketing, finance, and operations, they eventually decided to join forces on a business venture of their own. “We liked the idea of creating a fun, chill vibe for a business,” they described. The more simplistic nature of the business model for Sweet Stack Shack was appealing to them, and “it’s hard not to smile with ice cream, cookies, and a tropical theme” said Kent.
Jones and Kent started their search for Sweet Stack Shack’s very first home with the intention of identifying a location that resonated with the atmosphere they wanted to create. “We came to St. Petersburg and liked the artsy, eclectic, and inclusive culture. Everyone here is willing to try something new that is local to the area. We recognized the growth that is happening and wanted to be a part of it,” Jones explained.
In considering that ice cream plays such a predominant role in the business model, St. Petersburg’s year-round warm weather was also a persuading factor for Sweet Stack Shack’s location. With a smaller, intimate venue and a tropical theme, Sweet Stack Shack is meant to be an everyday mini vacation for everyone - right in the Edge District of Downtown St. Petersburg. If you’re interested in bringing the vacation to you, Sweet Stack Shack also offers dessert catering services that include a full-service ice cream sandwich bar, or pre-packaged made-to-order ice cream sandwiches.
On Thursday, January 10th the Sweet Stack Shack will celebrate their recent opening with a ribbon cutting from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. The ribbon cutting is great opportunity to meet the owners, network, and indulge guilt-free, so be sure to mark your calendars and look out for the invitations.
