FDOT Funding Of The Central Ave Bus Rapid Transit Final Design

Posted On 12/04/2015 by St. Pete Chamber

Chamber members are invited to attend a press conference on Monday, December 7th at 1:00 pm, announcing FDOT’s $500,000 grant award to PSTA for the final design of the Central Avenue Bus Rapid Transit project from downtown St. Petersburg to the Gulf beaches.  This completes the PSTA’s and Chamber’s top transportation legislative priority in 2016 and we would love to have you in attendance to support. Chamber President, Chris Steinocher will be amongst the guest speakers.

Florida Senate Transportation Committee Chair Jeff Brandes and FDOT will announce a $500,000 grant award to PSTA for the final design of the Central Avenue BRT project from downtown St. Petersburg to the Gulf beaches.

The Central Avenue BRT will complement local service provided by the existing and highly successful Central Avenue Trolley by providing expedited, limited stop travel from downtown St. Petersburg to the beaches serving tourists, employers, and residents.

The Central Avenue Corridor is the single highest transit corridor in the Tampa Bay region, and has been the topic of many transit-related studies.

This award to complete the final design completes PSTA’s #1 legislative priority and puts the $16.5M project on track to apply for Federal and State grants. The high-speed transit service is expected to be initiated by 2020.

Speakers to include:
Senator Jeff Brandes, FDOT Secretary Paul Steinman, Visit St. Pete Clearwater Executive Director David Downing, members of the St. Petersburg City Council, St. Petersburg Chamber President, Chris Steinocher and Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority leaders.

Next Monday, December 7, 2015 at 1 p.m.
