Great Explorations Children’s Museum was co-founded by the Junior League of St. Petersburg and Hands-On! Inc. in 1986. It is the 1st mid-size children’s museum in the country and the only children’s museum in FL to achieve accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums. This is the highest recognition for a museum, allowing Great Explorations to join the ranks of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Salvador Dali Museum, and others.

In March 2003, the museum relocated to its 24,000 square foot facility located next to the historic Sunken Gardens on 4th Street in St. Petersburg.

Last year, Great Explorations gave back $750,000 of in-kind services to our community. The museum offers free Title One school field trips, camp scholarships, free community outreaches and more! They also have a program for children with special needs as well as Museums for All, for low-income families.

Chamber members are invited to Great Exploration’s upcoming Night at the Brewseum event on May 20th from 7:00PM – 11:00PM. Play like a kid again in the exhibits and compete against in various relays and games, while enjoying the best craft beers in town!
