It was the purrrrfect ending to the work week to welcome our four-legged friends from Friends of Strays. CEO, Dara Eckart, was so kind to bring by Naomi, Levi, and Everett to enjoy some Friday afternoon snuggles and play time at the Chamber’s office.
Friends of Strays is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and adoption of homeless pets since 1978. The most heart-warming aspect of their organization is that they are a no-kill shelter and will offer homeless pets the proper care for the duration of time that is necessary to ensure their safety and utmost love. With a staff dedicated to helping and providing care for homeless animals, their animal shelter can have up upwards of 100+ cats and dogs visiting at any given time.
Friends of Strays partners with other animal rescue organizations locally, and throughout the Virgin Islands where they arrange to take in homeless animals and help them survive the aggressive heat conditions of the Caribbean summer time. Last year, they also partnered with a rescue organization to take in homeless animals after Hurricane Maria left animals without families or the means to survive.
Friends of Strays maintains a community focus, with humans and pets, by offering a number of programs including Pet Food Pantry, foster care programs, and Seniors for Seniors.
Friends of Strays most recent program to debut in the Sunshine City is Doggy Day Out, where members of the community can pair with a shelter dog for a field trip to help reduce kennel stress and provide their dogs an enriching experience. Outings can last from an hour to all day, exploring dog-friendly St. Pete.
Thank you to Friends of Strays for all the PAWsitive things you do and for our special visit today!
