Our Tampa office, conveniently located in the Suntrust Financial Centre for nearly 25 years, consists of 19 attorneys and a Director of Development & Zoning. The local team offers multidisciplinary solutions with a focus on Labor & Employment (including Employee Benefits), Land Development, Zoning & Environmental, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, and Real Estate (including Condominium & Homeowner Association Documentation and Commercial Real Estate Lending).
Labor & Employment
We represent some of the largest employers in Florida (transportation, pharma, technology, healthcare agriculture, building management, etc.) and small and mid-sized employers, including a variety of local retailers, hotels and restaurants, service providers, and other small businesses. We provide strategic preventive counseling, training, audits, as well as immigration and labor management relations services. We also provide zealous and effective representation in administrative and litigation matters, including at mediation and in trial.
We host an annual Labor & Employment Law Seminar in both Tampa and Miami. The events draw hundreds of human resource professionals, in-house counsel and senior executives from Florida’s top businesses and explore timely, hot topics in labor and employment law.
We also publish an annual “pocket guide,” a go-to resource for HR professionals who need answers on Florida employment laws on the spot, and an award-winning blog for anyone interested in the day-to-day issues facing employers. Subscribe in English at BeLaborThePoint.com or in Spanish at CafeConLabor.com.
Our Employee Benefits practice counsels employers in employee pension and welfare plans and executive equity and deferred compensation programs. We also represent employers in the matters of initial and continuing tax qualification and audits of plans. We advise employers on handling employees’ claims for benefits, as well as strategizing the defense of any claims. Further, we have considerable experience providing tax advice and services to tax-exempt organizations in their efforts to provide competitive benefits to diverse groups of employees. We also have significant experience handling sophisticated ERISA litigation on behalf of employers, plan administrators, trustees and individual defendants.
Land Development, Zoning & Environmental
Our Land Development, Zoning & Environmental group has helped transform and develop the landscape of Tampa over the past 40 years, working on countless city landmarks that spurred growth and drew people to the area. The group continues to be at the forefront of significant land use and transportation projects that are expected to further advance the region within the next decade. We assist clients with matters relating to Environmental & Natural Resources; Government Affairs; Land Development/Land Use/Zoning; Land Use, Environmental & Property Rights Litigation; and Planning/Geographic Information System (GIS) services.
The group impacts the city through education as frequent moderators and panelists on a variety of topics at annual industry events and conferences and are actively involved with many local industry organizations, including the Tampa Bay Builders Association (TBBA), Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Tampa Bay, Real Estate Investment Council (REIC) Tampa Bay, National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Tampa Bay Chapter, and Urban Land Institute (ULI) Tampa Bay.
The team frequently publishes news updates (including significant COVID-19 updates) and produces a quarterly newsletter, “What’s Developing?,” to keep clients informed of significant legislative changes, initiatives, deadlines, or political, business and development trends that may impact their business. To subscribe to our newsletters, please click here. The group also developed several online applications to assist clients—including an Executive Order Permit Extension Tracker, a first-of-its-kind tool that explains what kinds of permits may qualify for extensions, identifies the most recent Executive Orders, and depicts the counties to which they apply and a Florida Qualified Opportunity Zone (QZone) Map, a web-based tool for searching and verifying locations within qualified opportunity zones.
